Two people seriously injured in Lachine apartment dispute, man, 28, arrested on scene

Two people were seriously injured in an argument that escalated in an apartment in Montreal’s Lachine borough.

Emergency services received a 911 call at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, concerning an injured woman in an apartment on Duff Court Street, near Esther-Blondin Street.

“The victim, a 65-year-old woman, had taken refuge in a neighbor’s home. She sustained injuries to the upper body, possibly from a sharp object”, said Montreal police (SPVM) spokesperson Constable Mariane Allaire Morin.

The woman was in critical condition when taken to hospital, but her life is no longer in danger, according to the SPVM spokesperson.

“The suspect was still in the apartment when police arrived. The specialized support and intervention section was dispatched to the scene. The area was contained for nearly two hours before the suspect was arrested by our officers,” said Allaire Morin.

The 28-year-old man was also taken to hospital for treatment of upper-body injuries, but is not feared for his life.

A perimeter has been set up to protect the scene and facilitate the work of investigators dispatched to the scene.

The SPVM investigation is ongoing.
