A technical glitch at the Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport caused long delays for people arriving in the city on Monday evening.

The Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) explain that there was a national outage of the primary inspection kiosks, which caused border control slowdowns at airports across the country.

“During this time, travellers were redirected to the primary inspection lines staffed with officers,” said Rebecca Purdy, a senior spokesperson with the CBSA.

Wait times for arriving passengers stood at 25 to 30 minutes at their peak, according to the ADM.

“This happened at customs. Therefore, [there was] no impact on departing flights,” said Anne-Sophie Hamel, a spokesperson with the ADM.

She notes systems returned to normal just before 8 p.m.

“All kiosks are back online, and passengers are being processed normally,” Hamel confirmed.

This comes barely two weeks after a “connectivity issue” at the airport, particularly in the check-in and security areas, caused a major slowdown in operations.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of that failure.
