Residents unhappy with Shaughnessy Village condo project

Opposition to condo project Developers want to build two 60-metre high towers at the corner of Rene Levesque and Fort

A condo project that is slated to be built at the corner of René Levesque and Fort is facing major opposition from nearby residents.

At a consultation meeting on Thursday evening, opponents said the area where the buildings would be constructed is already too densely populated.

The facility would include two 60-meter tall towers and would contain 360 condominium units on land that currently surrounds the Judah House, built in 1874 and donated to the Franciscan order in 1949.

Those who oppose the project say the land could be better used as a green space for the neighbourhood.

"We don't have green spaces or parks or recreational centres where young people can go," said Shaughnessy Village Association VP Brian Sanctuary. "Over the last few years, we've noticed that young people with families have left the area and one of their complaints is that there's nowhere for them to play."
