The opposition in Quebec City is criticizing the soaring salaries of senior managers at Santé Québec and the Ministry of Health at a time when patient services are being cut.

The salaries of senior managers have almost doubled since Health Minister Christian Dubé’s reform, rising from $3.7 million to $7 million, according to information published in La Presse.

When he created Santé Québec, Dubé had promised “a small, agile team” that would make the network more efficient, Liberal health critic André Fortin pointed out on Wednesday.

“In what world do you double the salaries of top managers, then cut services to the public, and then say, ‘We want people to get value for money,‘” he blasted.

“If only we could see results for the public, that would be one thing, but that’s not the case at the moment,” he added.
