Montreal police (SPVM) say one man is dead and another seriously injured following a collision Friday evening in the LaSalle borough.
An SPVM spokesperson said several 911 calls were received around 7 p.m., reporting a crash on Saint-Patrick Street near Irwin Street.
When police officers arrived at the scene, paramedics were already assisting the vehicle’s occupants.
According to the SPVM, the driver, a 22-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, a 21-year-old man was conscious but seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital. Police no longer fear for his life.
Preliminary information suggests the vehicle was travelling at high speed westbound on Saint-Patrick when, for unknown reasons, it lost control and struck a tree.
Several witnesses have been interviewed, and officers will be reviewing security camera footage.
The investigation is ongoing.
