A driver is looking at a ticket of over $2,100 after he was clocked going more than 110 km/h over the posted speed limit in Montreal, according to Quebec provincial police (SQ).

The SQ said in a news release that officers in Montreal intercepted a driver at around 4:30 a.m. on Highway 15 at Édouard-Montpetit Boulevard.

Police say the man was going 189 km/h in the 70 km/h zone.

The Montreal man received a $2,136 ticket, 24 demerit points and a week-long driver’s license suspension.

“Speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads,” the SQ said.
