Montreal Canadien forward Emil Heineman was struck and hit by a vehicle on Monday and will be out for around a month.
The Canadiens announced on Tuesday that he sustained upper body injuries.
The team announced that the Swedish international will be out for three to four weeks.
Salt Lake City police (SLCPD) said 911 dispatch received a call about a collision involving a pedestrian at 2:55 p.m.
“Salt Lake City police officers responded and began an initial investigation,” the SLCPD said in an email to CTV News. “Officers checked the area for the initial person who made the report, a passerby, and the pedestrian involved but officers could not locate either.”
Officers later received information from a nearby business about the crash.
“Officers learned the pedestrian was a Montreal Canadiens hockey team player,” the SLCPD said. “The team identified the pedestrian as Emil Heineman and did not show any signs of serious injuries and was being attended to by team doctors.”
The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The Habs traded Tyler Toffoli to the Calgary Flames in 2022 for Heineman along with Tyler Pitlick, a first-round pick (who became Filip Mesar), and a fifth-round pick in 2023 (Yevgeni Volokhin).
The Florida Panthers drafted Heineman 43rd overall in the 2020 NHL draft.
Emil Heineman a été impliqué, hier, dans un accident de la route comme piéton. Heineman a subi une blessure au haut du corps et sera absent pour une durée de trois à quatre semaines.
