Montreal business hit by alleged arson for the third time

A salon in Montreal's Griffintown neighbourhood was the target of an alleged arson for a third time on Jan. 28, 2025.

A business in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough was hit by an alleged arson attack for the third time early Tuesday morning, according to Montreal police (SPVM).

Officers received a 911 call at 3:15 a.m. about the incident on Payette Street near des Seigneurs Street.

“We’re talking about considerable damage to that building,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “According to a witness, at least one suspect was seen running from the scene when the fire started, so that gives us a reason to believe an arson was committed.”

There were no reported injuries, and there have been no arrests.

“According to our information, it’s the third arson to occur at this business in the last few months,” adds Brabant. “We’ll have investigators talk to the owners to understand the circumstances.”

The file has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.
