A 26-year-old man has been formally charged after what police described as a road rage incident on Montreal’s South Shore that ended with an officer being dragged by a vehicle.

The suspect was allegedly involved in a minor collision with two brothers in Brossard Monday afternoon, Noovo Info reported. The suspect allegedly got out of his vehicle and began hitting the other vehicle’s windshield with a metal bar, causing significant damage, before attacking the two men.

A responding officer went to the scene to question the suspect when he allegedly dragged the officer with his vehicle down Auteuil Avenue, near the intersection of Grand Allée.

Carrie Burton, a witness, was driving her Jeep on Auteuil Avenue and told CTV News on Monday that she saw the suspect’s car in the distance and someone’s legs dangling from the opened driver’s side door. Burton said that she swerved her vehicle in the path of the suspect’s car in order to stop him.

The female officer who was dragged finally rolled away from the suspect’s car into the middle of the street after the suspect took off. He was eventually arrested.

The police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
