MONTREAL - Montreal novelist Dany Laferriere has been announced as the winner of the 2010 Blue Metropolis International Literary Grand Prix, worth $10,000.
Laferriere, who was born in Haiti, will receive the prize at the 12th annual Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival, set for April 21 to 25.
Laferriere's recent books include "L'Enigme du retour," and "Je suis un ecrivain japonais," set to be published in English as "I am a Japanese Writer."
He's written 16 novels.
Previous winners of the prize, which is given for lifetime achievement, include A.S. Byatt, Margaret Atwood, Paul Auster and Norman Mailer.
