Kamil Karamali is a Weekend Correspondent for CTV National News, based in Toronto.
Karamali joined CTV National News in 2023, reporting on the stories that resonate with Canadians across the country both here at home and around the world. Prior to that, he worked for several major television news networks in Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and Toronto, winning multiple awards for breaking news and investigative coverage.
Karamali was part of the team that received an RTDNA Canada regional award for exclusive coverage of the Langley, B.C. mass shooting spree in 2022 in uncovering exclusive details on the gunman. He has been twice awarded the RTDNA Canada's Byron MacGregor Award for best radio newscast in a large market: first for national breaking news coverage of a 4.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Vancouver Island in 2016 and again for the federal approval and protests around the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion in 2017.
Karamali is also experienced in long-form storytelling, having written, produced, and reported for Global TV’s true-crime program Crime Beat. He spent weeks on the road reporting on wildfires devastating communities across B.C. in the summers of 2022 and 2023. He also worked as morning show host for Global B.C.
Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Karamali is a graduate of the journalism program at BCIT.
In addition to his experience in journalism, Karamali has worked for Aga Khan Development Network in Pakistan, Mozambique, and Tanzania; shooting and editing videos on some of the not-for-profit's charity work in rural regions. He also taught journalism in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan at the University of Central Asia in 2019.
He speaks English, Hindi, and Urdu.
