OTTAWA - Some prominent politicians who won't be running for re-election in the Oct. 14 federal election:
- Foreign Affairs Minister David Emerson, first elected as a Liberal in 2004, re-elected 2006; joined the Conservatives 2006.
- Fisheries Minister Loyola Hearn, first elected in a May 2000 byelection, re-elected 2000, 2004, 2006.
- Human Resources Minister Monte Solberg, first elected in 1993, re-elected 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006.
- Former prime minister Paul Martin, first elected 1988, re-elected 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006. Liberal prime minister December 2003 to February 2006.
- Former cabinet minister Belinda Stronach, first elected as a Conservative in 2004; joined Liberals in 2005, re-elected 2006.
- Former Liberal cabinet minister Lucienne Robillard, first elected 1995, re-elected 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006; resigned last January.
- Former Liberal cabinet minister Andy Scott, first elected 1993, re-elected 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006.
- Former NDP leader Alexa McDonough, first elected 1997, re-elected 2000, 2004, 2006.
- Bill Blaikie, former NDP House leader now the longest-serving MP in the Commons; first elected 1979, re-elected 1980, 1984, 1988, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006.
- Longtime Liberal backbencher Tom Wappel, first elected 1988, re-elected 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006.
