Gasoline prices are coming down in Canada as the consumer carbon charge drops to zilch from 17.6 cents per litre, but motorists had yet to feel the full impact of the change early this week.
That change has slowly made its way down to the gas pumps, resulting in prices dropping across the country. According to CAA, Saturday’s prices marked the lowest national average price for gasoline logged in the last year at 136.6 cents/litre. Just one short year ago, that price sat at 162.9 cents/litre.
The market tracking website Gas Buddy pinned the lowest gas price in the London area at 115.2 cents/litre on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer in St. Thomas. The cheapest gas in the city of London was reported at an Esso on Mount Pleasant Ave., coming in at 122.8 cents/litre.
The final Canada Carbon Rebate is to be paid starting April 22 for those who file their 2024 tax returns before Wednesday. For those filing after that date, the rebate will be sent after their returns are assessed.
