OPP are urging caution as a Huron-Kinloss resident reported scam losses of around $60,000.
According to police, the victim was attempting to invest in cryptocurrency through an online agency.
The victim gave access to their devices to the scammer, which resulted in the loss.
Police say that it is paramount that residents be cautious in digital currency transactions and investments. Scammers often use fraudulent documents to lure victims with the promise of exorbitant returns.
You can always contact financial institutions to verify documents, never surrender information or banking details without verifying the legitimacy of a contact. Contact the company or financial institution directly by a number you know to be theirs, not the phone number or email the document advises to do.
Anyone with information on this or any other fraud is asked to contact South Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
