What is an appropriate way to mark Valentine's Day with your 'work spouse'?

According to a poll conducted by Monster, 45 per cent of American workers now have a 'work wife' or 'work husband' -- a platonic but close co-worker.

The figure gives an insight into the changes in office culture in the U.S. over recent years, with the term "work spouse" becoming increasingly commonplace.

The problem, of course, with having a special colleague, is how to celebrate Valentine's Day platonically with them.

Luckily Monster has distributed some advice on the matter, including regifting old presents from the festive season or offering yellow roses, which have been a symbol of friendship since the 18th century.

Other suggestions include adding a blocked meeting to their calendar to give them the gift of free time, or a lifelike dummy to place in their cubicle while the two of you sneak off for coffee.

The results of the poll are based on votes cast by 1,100 visitors on the U.S. site between Jan. 19 and Feb. 2, 2015.
