A Guelph man is facing weapons charges after police said he held a knife to another male’s throat during a disagreement over cigarettes.

Officers with the Guelph Police Service were called to a downtown social service agency around 4:20 p.m. Thursday for an incident that had happened 30 minutes earlier.

They were told a resident accused another male of stealing his cigarettes and held a knife to his neck while questioning him. Staff later saw the incident on video.

Both of the males involved left the property before police arrived, however a suspect was located and arrested a couple hours later.

A 24-year-old Guelph man has been charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of breaching a probation order.
