Guelph high school put into lockdown, teen facing weapons and drugs charges

A 17-year-old teenager from Guelph is facing weapons and drug related charges after a high school was briefly put into lockdown.

Guelph Police Service officers were called to the south-end school around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday. School staff told them a male had come to the school to sell cannabis to students and had pulled out a small black handgun during an interaction in a bathroom.

Officers arrested the suspect outside the school. They found a black BB gun in his pocket and some cannabis in various packages.

He has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failing to comply with a judicial release order and two counts under the Cannabis Act, including selling to a person under 18-years-old.

Police said the teenager was not a student at the school.
