Youth rehabilitation centre in Elora closing

A drug addiction rehabilitation centre for adolescents in Elora is closing their doors.

Portage Ontario said they have made the decision to close the location at 6681 Irvine Street due to “financial and economic challenges that, despite our best efforts, could no longer be overcome.”

In a statement posted on social media, Portage Ontario said, “This has been an incredibly difficult decision for all of us, but we remain committed to ensuring that our current clients continue to receive the care they need and have helped them transition to another Portage centre for the completion of their therapy.”

In an email to CTV News on Friday, Portage confirmed three people who had been receiving treatment were relocated to another centre geared toward adolescents.

The organization said the facility has been open for approximately 40 years.

According to Portage’s website, it offered free residential treatment for youth between the ages of 14 and 18.

Portage operates several centres throughout the country, including other facilities for youth in Quebec and New Brunswick.
