Toyota Tundras remain popular with thieves as the Waterloo Regional Police Service is investigating at least a dozen thefts or attempted thefts involving the trucks so far this year.
Police shared a video on social media on Monday. It shows a person approach a truck and shine a light on part of the vehicle before walking away. Police said the person may have been thinking about trying to steal the vehicle but they left after seeing a tag tracking sticker.
A week ago, WRPS arrested an 18-year-old Cambridge man they believe could be connected to multiple vehicle thefts in 2024, including the theft of a Toyota Tundra in Kitchener.
Late last year, Waterloo Regional Police Service worked with Hamilton Police to charge two men and recover 20 stolen high-end vehicles. They said five Toyota and Lexus vehicles were stolen from homes in Kitchener’s Doon South and Brigadoon neighbourhoods between Dec. 28 and Dec. 29, 2024. As part of the investigation into those thefts, investigators searched a rural property in the Mount Hope area on Dec. 30 and found multiple stolen vehicles.
A 63-year-old Hamilton man and 27-year-old Bolton man were both arrested and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.
