A Kitchener resident was killed Wednesday in a workplace incident at a Hamilton warehouse.
The Ministry of Labour was notified of the incident at Centura Floor and Wall Fashion – involving an employee of Cambridge-based DC Racking – around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, a ministry spokesperson told CTV News.
Inside the warehouse, a rack holding cement bags and ceramic tiles had collapsed on 53-year-old Mitch Hentges, who became trapped under the debris and died of his injuries.
“We are all shocked and saddened by this tragedy,” DC Racking president Rolfe Redmann said in an email.
“Mitch was a wonderful member of our team and will be greatly missed.”
Family members say Hentges, who didn’t have any children of his own, was a kind and loving uncle.
“He liked to joke around, and had a great sense of humour with a kind heart,” sister Bonnie Sanche said.
The Ministry of Labour continues to investigate.
