Driver leads police on chase through Kitchener

An 18-year-old from Woolwich Township is facing multiple charges after fleeing from Waterloo Region Police.

A disturbance was reported at Menno Street and Woolwich Street, in Breslau, around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Officers tried to speak with the 18-year-old at the scene but he took off in a car, travelling at a high rate of speed along Woolwich Street South.

Police said he was driving into oncoming traffic and caused at least one other driver to take action in order to avoid a collision.

Officers tried and failed to stop the car at Woolwich Street South near Victoria Street North.

A second attempt, at Victoria Street North near Shirley Drive, was successful.

The 18-year-old was charged with two counts of flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, taking a vehicle without consent and failing to stop when directed by police.
