As crews continue to try to clear roads and sidewalks after two significant winter storms, the City of Waterloo is extending a parking ban and so is the City of Kitchener.
Vehicles parked on the street could be towed and the owner may receive a ticket.
In an update on Wednesday, the city said the parking ban and associated significant weather event could last through the weekend and into the following week.
“The city will declare an official end to the significant weather event as soon as possible, when roads and the active transportation network have been cleared to expected standards for winter use. Keeping vehicles off the roads creates much needed space for the work to get done,” the release said.
The City of Kitchener said it is extending the snow event to accommodate snow clearing.
The city said parked cars are the main obstacle for crews trying to complete snow removal and loading activities.
“The continuation of the snow event declaration is required since this enacts the City’s tag-and-tow process,” said a media release from the city.
The ticket for parking on a Kitchener street during a snow event is $80.
Vehicles can also be towed if a maintenance vehicle is unable to get down a city street.
“The significant weather event has remained in place since Feb. 12 as it has taken city crews longer to complete snow clearing operations and deliver our expected services,” said Kitchener officials.
