The Brantford Bulldogs were pushed to the brink of defeat after losing 3-2 to the Oshawa Generals in Game 5 on Saturday.
Both teams went into the game knotted in the series at 2-2, as they fought to be the ones to grab the lead.
After a first period of saves from both sides of the ice, Bulldogs’ Jake O’Brien was able to break the seal with a shot over Generals’ goalie Jacob Oster, finding the back of the net with just 1:06 left in the period.
The Bulldogs were able to carry their 1-0 lead into the second period but were tied up quickly, as Generals’ Beckett Sennecke tipped the team’s first goal on the power play just 24 seconds into the period. Sennecke continued his streak, as he tipped in another power play goal after it initially was blocked off of Bulldogs’ goalie Ryerson Leenders, pulling the Generals into the lead. The Bulldogs were able to catch up once again and tied the game at the 11:54 mark with their own power play goal, scored by Cole Brown.
In the third period, the winning goal was scored by Andrew Gibson during his first game back from his two-game suspension for hitting Bulldogs player Nick Lardis on the ice. Gibson was able to get the puck past Leenders and into the net, maintaining this lead until the end of the game.
The Oshawa Generals now hold the lead in the series at 3-2. The Brantford Bulldogs will attempt to fend off elimination in Game 6 which will be taking place at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa on Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
