MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - A girl who was 12 years old when she helped killed her parents and younger brother in Medicine Hat, Alta., has received a positive sentence review.

Justice Scott Brooker says the now 17-year-old is getting excellent grades in her school work and progressing well in her treatment plan.

She is living in a secure youth facility in Calgary, where she is being allowed on excursions as long as she has an escort.

It's expected that within the next year she will be moved to open custody within the community and will no longer need supervision to go out.

The girl was convicted along with her boyfriend, Jeremy Steinke, of murdering her family in their home in April 2006.

Court heard at her trial that she was mad at her parents who didn't like her going out with someone older.
