The City of Edmonton will begin clearing snow in cul-de-sacs on Tuesday.

The city said the decision was made based on this season’s “significant” snowfall and the completion of the residential parking ban.

There are more than 3,000 cul-de-sacs in Edmonton, and it will take about six weeks for them all to be cleared.

Work will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays. Not all vehicles will have to be moved, and in cul-de-sacs where they do, the city said “no parking” signs will be put up 24 hours before clearing begins.

Streets will be cleared to bare pavement if temperatures are above -20 C. If it’s below, crews will level the snowpack to 5 cm instead.

Removed snow will be piled in the cul-de-sac for five to seven days before it is removed; residents should stay off of the piles, the city said, because they are not a safe place to play.
