CTV Edmonton: New flight to Dallas takes off Alberta is sometimes referred to as the Texas of the north, and one more connection was cemented Wednesday with a direct flight.

The newest non-stop flight from Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is heading for the U.S. city made famous by the likes of J.R. Ewing and the NFL's Cowboys.

The first direct flight to the Dallas/Fort Worth airport took off Wednesday morning from the EIA.

The announcement to add daily non-stop service to Dallas was made back in December in the form of a Christmas present for the airport and Mayor Don Iveson.

The new service is offered through American Airlines – the three-hour, 55 minute flight is scheduled to leave Edmonton at 8:10 a.m. daily, arriving at Dallas/Fort Worth at 1:05 p.m.

The return four-hour flight is scheduled to depart from Dallas daily at 4:20 p.m. and arrive in Edmonton at 7:25 p.m.

Dallas is the third major international non-stop destination from the Edmonton International Airport announced in the last year, after New York and Iceland.
