A popular southside library is shut down after a heavy light fixture fell from the ceiling. No one was hurt but the temporary closure has been frustrating for many.
The Mill Woods branch of the Edmonton Public Library which opened last July has been forced to close due to what appears to be human error. City officials say screws that were used to anchor lights to the ceiling were not long enough to support the fixture. The 50 pound fluorescent light fixture became unattached from the ceiling, falling and taking two other lights down with it.
Crews spent the day checking all the lights in the facility and determined they are safe. The city expects the contractor responsible for the lighting Ellis Don, to pick up the cost of the repairs.
The second floor of the building is expected to open tomorrow, the main floor which is the library itself should be open Monday morning.
