Evacuation order at MacEwan University ended after suspicious package deemed benign

A suspicious package at MacEwan University has been deemed innocuous by emergency officials.

An evacuation alert was issued at the school on Thursday after the package was located in one of the buildings on campus.

“A suspicious package has been reported at Building 5. Please evacuate calmly and quickly,” the notice sent to students at 12:41 p.m. read.

Other buildings at the university remained open and classes continued on schedule.

A spokesperson for the Edmonton Police Service confirmed there is no further concern for public safety.
