Edmonton spring sweep is underway. Here’s what you need to know

Published:

As spring weather blooms city crews are out clearing the sand and debris from Edmonton streets.

City of Edmonton crews are now cleaning roads as spring hits full swing.

Crews have been sweeping major roads, pathways and bike lanes, the city announced on Friday.

Residential roads are next starting on April 14.

Crews are working 24 hours a day on weekdays. Night crews will clean main roads between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. and residential roads will be cleaned from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“The city is cleaning streets to remove sand and debris from roads, multi-use trails and boulevards,” a release read. “Street sweeping helps maintain safe travel conditions, prevents winter debris from entering storm drains and keeps materials from disrupting air quality.”

Parking ban signs will be posted in neighbourhoods 48 hours before sweeping begins.

All roads are expected to be done by June 1, the city said.
