School divisions in the capital region cancelled bus service for Monday due to cold weather, and at least one has called it off for Tuesday as well.

The Parkland School Division, which has public schools in the Spruce Grove and Stony Plain area west to Evansburg, won’t offer buses because of the extreme cold temperatures forecast for Monday.

Parkland said Monday evening in a media release that bus service will be cancelled Tuesday, too, because of the forecast cold weather.

Additionally, Elk Island Public Schools cancelled morning bus service for families in the Andrew, Mundare and Vegreville areas.

Elk Island Catholic Schools also cancelled bus service in Camrose and Vegreville. However, buses were expected to run in Vegreville in the afternoon.

And all Greater St. Albert Catholic School morning buses were cancelled, including in rural areas.

Wind chill below -40 were expected Monday morning.

Schools will be open for classes, both school divisions said.
