3 killed in crash northeast of Edmonton

Published:

Three people are dead after a two-vehicle crash northeast of Edmonton late Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP were called to a crash involving a minivan and a semi-truck at the intersection of Highway 29 and Highway 36 in the County of St. Paul just after 5:15 p.m.

The minivan failed to stop and was struck by the semi, RCMP said.

Three people – a man and a woman, both 29, from Saddle Lake Cree Nation and a 21-year-old woman from Edmonton – died on scene. Two others were taken to hospital with severe injuries, police said.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.

The highways are now open.
