TORONTO - Acclaimed Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg has confirmed rumours that he wants British star Keira Knightley to be in his next feature, "The Talking Cure."

The director of such hits as "The Fly" and "A History of Violence" says the movie is being adapted from the Christopher Hampton play about Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung and the rise of psychoanalysis.

"It would be with producer Jeremy Thomas, who is best known for 'The Last Emporer,"' Cronenberg told The Canadian Press this week at the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards.

"We've been talking to Keira Knightley about playing the lead."

Cronenberg also said he's finished writing the big-screen adaptation of Don DeLillo's provocative 2003 novel "Cosmopolis."

"Everyone's happy with the script," he said, noting they haven't cast it yet.

"It's a project I'm very fond of," added Cronenberg. "It's a terrific book and plans are in the works to make that movie.

"I have a couple of possible films, none of which has jelled completely yet, so that's why I'm writing as well -- I've got to do something."

"Cosmopolis" follows the self-made tycoon Eric Packer as he tries to cross Manhattan in a stretch limo, navigating business deals, chance meetings, sex and violence along the way.
