A Nova Scotia family is breathing a sigh of relief after their beloved Boston terrier that was stolen during a break-and-enter last week was safely returned home.
The black-and-white pup named Homer was taken from the Cole Harbour, N.S. house on Tuesday while homeowner Megan Hadley out was helping her sister-in-law, who was in labour at the time.
The family initially feared that Homer had run away through an open door during the break-and-enter, but they later believed he was stolen after they found his collar and leash missing.
Jewelry, makeup, a gym bag, and loose change were also taken from the house.
Police say they found the dog late Friday night while responding to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle travelling along Highway 102 in Nova Scotia.
Officers stopped the vehicle, which turned out to be stolen, near Brookfield, N.S., according to RCMP Sgt. Brigdit Leger. The small dog was located inside the car.
Homer has since been returned to his family.
Police say two young people were arrested and remain in custody. It’s unclear whether they face criminal charges; RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.
