HALIFAX -- Forensic investigators have concluded a four-day search of a Halifax-area property without discovering any human remains, RCMP said Sunday.
Sgt. Alain Leblanc said the extensive search of the home and surrounding property on Prospect Road in Shad Bay that started last Thursday morning did not turn up any remains.
But he said the investigation will continue.
"We're hoping for more information to come to light," Leblanc said Sunday afternoon.
The Mounties had previously refused to reveal the reason for the search, which also involves Halifax Regional Police and the medical examiner's office.
Leblanc confirmed earlier Sunday that police were looking for human remains related to what he described as a "major unsolved crime" in the community.
"This is related to our relentless pursuit of unsolved crimes," he said.
"At this time, we will not provide specifics on the crime this relates to or give more information as to what led us to this residence."
He also refused to elaborate on the nature of the crime or when it occurred, saying he didn't want to compromise the integrity of the investigation.
"There's too many unknowns," he said. "We are in the fairly early stages of our investigation."
