Two young men are dead and three others are in critical condition after a car crash in Montreal early Saturday morning.
Police told CTV News Montreal that the car lost control, swerved across several lanes, smashed into a tree and hit the balcony of a home around 2:15 a.m.
Two males, aged 18 and 19, were pronounced dead in hospital. Three other occupants of the car -- including the driver –- are in critical condition. They are all between the ages of 18 and 25.
Police say the car was travelling westbound on Notre Dame Street -- a major thoroughfare in Montreal’s east end –- when the accident occurred.
Paramedics were forced to remove the roof of the car in order to rescue the victims, according to authorities.
Investigators say speed is believed to be a factor in the accident and they are also looking into whether alcohol played a role.
No one inside the residence was injured.
