The RCMP has identified the father-and-son victims of a double homicide in rural Prince Edward Island.

Investigators say the bodies of 68-year-old Herbert Brent McGuigan and 39-year-old Brendon Patrick McGuigan were found in a home on St. Mary’s Road in Kings County, south of Montague, on Wednesday evening.

Guy Vuozzo, 46, was arrested the following morning in connection with the deaths. He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Vuozzo will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Aug. 28.

“The P.E.I. RCMP Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate and will remain on the scene until their work there is completed,” Sgt. Leanne Butler of the P.E.I. RCMP said in a written statement. “Details about that investigation such as relationships, if any, between the victims and the accused along with further evidence such as any possible motives will come out through the court process.”

Autopsies are being conducted to determine cause of death.

Montague Mayor Richard Collins said area residents are “stunned and shocked” after the deaths, which are being described as the first double murder in P.E.I. in decades.

“People are in disarray…There seems to be no other conversation today except what happened last evening,” he told CTV News Channel on Thursday.
