Peel police are seeking the public's help in an abduction case after a six-year-old girl and her father did not return from a trip to France and Germany last year.
Police say the mother allowed her ex-husband, 39-year-old John Varga Cueves, to take their daughter Tatianna Cuevas on the trip to France and Germany, but they did not return as planned in August 2018.
Police were notified and have been working with international agencies to locate them.
Peel police spokesman Const. Akhil Mooken says officers are asking for the public's help nearly a year later because all leads were exhausted overseas.
Mooken says a court order in place states that the girl must reside with the mother, and so the case was deemed an abduction when the father did not return with her.
Police say the girl is described as black, four feet tall, 80 pounds, thin build, brown shoulder length curly hair and brown eyes.
Police say a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Cueves, who is described as five-foot-eight, 160 pounds, with a light complexion, short black hair, brown eyes and possibly a goatee.
