MONTREAL -- Getting ready to spruce up your office? Maybe the desk used by Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chretien is just the touch to add a little zing to your space.

After all, the desk by award-winning designer Alexandra Champalimaud created specifically for Trudeau is unlike anything you'd find in your average big-box store.

The desk from Trudeau's Montreal law office is part of a three-piece set that also includes his office drawers and cabinet.

The office set will be sold in an online auction by the Heffel Fine Art Auction House, with bids being accepted between Sept. 5 and Sept. 26.

The furniture is made of various materials such as maple burl wood and veneer, marble and bronze metal.

Trudeau, who was prime minister from 1968 to 1979 and 1980 to 1984, used the desk after he quit politics and returned to law with the firm of Heenan Blaikie.

He died in 2000.

Chretien, who was prime minister from 1993 to 2003, used the desk when he joined the firm in 2004.

Proceeds of the sale will go to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, which promotes research in the humanities and social sciences.
