HAVANA, Cuba - Cuban prosecutors are seeking 15 years in prison for a Canadian businessman as he awaits a ruling in his corruption trial.
An official announcement says the trial of Cy Tokmakjian of the Tokmakjian Group concluded June 12. A ruling is to be announced "in the coming days."
The announcement names two other Canadian citizens among the accused for the first time. There are also more than a dozen Cuban government officials and employees of Tokmakjian Group.
It says Tokmakjian is accused of corrupt practices to obtain benefits in business negotiations, unauthorized financial transactions, illegally expatriating large sums of money, altering records to avoid tax obligations and payroll irregularities.
The announcement was published Monday in Communist Party newspaper Granma and other official media.
