Maritimers are digging out of a second blast of wintry weather that swept through parts of Atlantic Canada Wednesday, shuttering some schools and delaying flights.

Just days after a large snowstorm walloped the region, Prince Edward Island, central Nova Scotia and southern New Brunswick were slammed again with heavy snow and high winds. Some areas could expect to see up to 30 centimetres of snowfall.

Snowfall and poor visibility led to long commutes and some accidents on roads and highways.

Storm and snowfall warnings remained in effect for parts of the Maritimes.

Environment Canada is calling for smaller amounts of snowfall along Nova Scotia’s Atlantic coast. The snow is expected to turn to rain as they day wears on.

Several flights in and out of Halifax Stanfield International Airport have been cancelled or delayed due to weather conditions.

Residents in Halifax are still dealing with the effects of the last winter snowstorm. Snow and cold temperatures have resulted in slippery conditions on city sidewalks.
