The Lethbridge Public Library is looking to expand its services to the wider community with the help of a new pop-up library pilot project.

The new BookStop will see a temporary pop-up library at the Labour Club Ice Centre on the northside.

The libraries are filling a void in underutilized spaces and underserved areas of the city.

Library members can use the BookStop to pick up holds, browse and check out books and drop off returns.

“We’re focusing on the northside because the northside was identified in the library facilities master plan as an underserved area in the city,” said Lethbridge Library CEO Tera Plato.

“So it’s really our first priority to see how we can better serve northside residents.”

City of Lethbridge’s Jennie Sudo said the pop-up will activate the Labor Club.

“The space that they’ve used is actually a very underused space,” Sudo said. “They’ve been -- amazingly – able to transform the cashier station -- what used to be the cashier station here at the Labor Club --- into this amazing BookStop.

The BookStop will be open until March.
