The Brooks Bandits didn’t score much Friday night but thanks to solid goaltending from Zach Zahara, they scored enough to take a 2-1 victory over the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the opening game of their BCHL semi-final.
Keith McInnis scored both goals for the Bandits, which were sandwiched around a Crusader goal from Lucas Brennan late in the first period that sent the two teams into the dressing room tied after one period.
In the second, McInnis put the Bandits back in front, and Zahara proved to be unbeatable for the rest of the game, stopping 25 of 26 shots to preserve the victory.
Zahara was named the game’s first star.
Game 2 goes Saturday night in Brooks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
