Calgarians hoping to make the most of the long weekend could run into some construction throughout the city, affecting traffic and closing roads.
Heading into the Easter long weekend, the City of Calgary shared a list of several road closures that will be in effect.

Here’s what closures will be in effect this weekend.
- The Fourth Avenue Flyover will be reduced to a single lane.
- Mission Bridge will be fully closed to vehicle traffic.
- Construction on the Sunnyside Flood Barrier continues. Flow on Memorial Drive, between Centre Street and 10 Street N.W., will be reduced to two-way traffic on the north side of the roadway.
- Traffic on Centre Street, between Eighth Avenue and Ninth Avenue, will be reduced, with two-way traffic on the east side of the road.
- The north curb lane and sidewalk will be closed on Ninth Avenue S.E., between First Street S.E. and Macleod Trail.
- Two right lanes will be closed on Ninth Avenue S.W., between Seventh Street S.W. and Sixth Street S.W. Two lanes will remain open.
- Centre Street South will be fully closed between Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue South.
- Four right lanes will be closed on Sixth Avenue S.W., between Ninth Street S.W. and 10th Street S.W. One lane will remain open.
- The intersection of 17th Avenue S.W. and Seventh Street S.W. will be fully closed.
- Three right lanes on 11th Avenue S.W., between First Street and Second Street S.W., will be closed on Saturday. One lane will remain open.
- Three left lanes on Ninth Avenue S.W., between First Street S.W. and Centre Street, will be closed for overnight utility work. One lane will remain open.
- Twentieth Street S.W. will be closed between 33rd Avenue S.W. and 34th Avenue S.W.
- The southbound lanes of Barlow Trail will be closed at 90th Avenue. Two-way traffic will take over the northbound lanes between Friday and Monday.
- Fifty-Second Street S.E. will be fully closed between 94th Avenue and 106th Avenue S.E.
The city is encouraging drivers to slow down while on the roads this weekend.
“We all understand that speeding is dangerous, but we may not understand that every kilometre over the speed limit increases the risk of a crash,” the city said.
Commuters are asked to plan ahead before hitting the road by downloading the Waze app for real-time driver info.
