Return of fluoride to Calgary’s water supply expected in March, city says

The City of Calgary says that by the end of March, upgrades to its water treatment plants will be complete, allowing for the reintroduction of fluoride.

The City of Calgary expects to start adding fluoride back into its water supply within a few weeks.

The city says work to install equipment at its water treatment plants should wrap up by the end of March.

In 2011, council voted to remove fluoride.

In a 2021 plebiscite, 62 per cent of Calgary voters cast ballots in favour of adding fluoride back.

The cost to reintroduce fluoride is $28 million, with annual costs of $1 million.
