Rebates for rain barrels, low-flow toilets: Lethbridge launches environmental incentive program

Lethbridge has launched an environmental incentive program, covering up to 50 per cent of the cost of rain barrels and low-flow toilets.

To mark Earth Day, the City of Lethbridge has launched its 2025 environmental incentive program.

The rebate will cover a portion of the cost of rain barrels and low-flow toilets.

It’s part of the city’s water conservation plan and strategy to help voluntarily reduce water use throughout the year.

The city has set aside $50,000 for the initiative.

“Each household can get up to two rebates for low-flow toilets and two for rain barrels,” the city’s website says.

“For both items, the rebate covers 50 per cent of the cost, up to $100 each.”

The rebate program is open through Dec. 31 or until funds run out.

Mark Svenson, City of Lethbridge environment manager, notes this past weekend provided “some good moisture,” but that’s not enough.

“The forecast is that it’s going to be dry to very dry this spring and summer, so we want to make sure the public is aware of that and plan accordingly,” said Mark Svenson, City of Lethbridge environment manager. said.

“Investing in rain barrels, investing in low-flow toilets are things that you can do now that you only have to think about once, really, and they have lasting effects over time.”
