The Alberta government announced on Monday that it plans to build two new schools in Calgary and Edmonton in an effort to ease enrolment pressures.
“These schools advance our promise to invest in Alberta’s families and communities and are part of our Building Alberta Plan. We’re committed to building 50 new schools and modernizing 70 more to ensure that students and communities have the world-class facilities they need to learn,” said Premier Alison Redford.
The new school in Calgary will be built in the community of Aspen Woods and will be K to 6.
The new Catholic School Board institution will house as many as 750 students and a similar sized school will be constructed in Windermere in Edmonton.
“These schools will serve as the hubs of their community for many years and provide students exceptional learning opportunities. Not only are we building centres for excellence in teaching and learning, we’re strengthening growing communities and community spirit,” said Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education.
The province says the new projects are two of six new Alberta schools being announced this December and together they will provide space for 4200 students.
