Police have received a number of complaints about a scam that solicits money from women through online dating sites and have taken a 28-year-old man into custody on an Alberta-wide warrant.
A man convinced a woman in March to give him cash in exchange for a cheque that was allegedly worth $550. The woman’s bank alerted her after the cheque came back as non-sufficient funds but she was unable to locate the man and has not heard from him since.
Calgary police say a number of similar allegations have been reported involving women being approached by a man they’ve met on online dating sites who then solicits them for money.
Last week, police issued a warrant for Dallon Kyle Johnstone, also known as Kyle Zirelli, for fraud under $5000 and he was arrested in northeast Calgary on Tuesday.
