An investigation is underway into what caused a backyard fire Friday morning in north Lethbridge.

At around 8:40 a.m., 17 firefighters from three stations responded to the blaze in the 1700 block of Second Avenue North.

Crews found flames and smoke coming from a garage. They were able to quickly bring the fire under control and contain the damage, although homes on either side did suffer some smoke damage.

No one was injured.

Damage is estimated at around $75,000.

The fire also damaged a power pole, downing some power lines off it and causing a power outage in the area.

Power was eventually restored to 224 affected customers.
