Human remains found in southwest Calgary were at location ‘for some time’: police

Police say human remains found in a southwest Calgary neighbourhood appear to be of a man over the age of 25.

Calgary police have confirmed remains found in the community of Spruce Cliff on Thursday are human.

Officers were called to the 3400 block of Spruce Drive S.W. by a pedestrian who made the grisly discovery.

Police say a preliminary autopsy has been completed, but the medical examiner still has to conduct a more thorough exam next week.

It’s hoped then there may be more information on the person’s identity, manner and cause of death, which remain under investigation.

“At this time, it is believed that the remains belong to a man over the age of 25, and that the body was at that location for some time,” police said in a Friday news release.

Investigators have searched a forested spot in the area, and say “several items were recovered,” adding that more searches are expected in the coming days.
