Coachella Valley came out firing Tuesday night, scoring four times in the first period, and the Wranglers never did recover, as they lost 6-1.
Tye Kartye scored twice, and Coachella Valley added singles from Jacob Melanson and David Goyette before Dryden Hunt scored late in the second to cut the Firebird lead to 4-1.
In the third, Ryan Winterton scored and Jani Nyman added his 26th goal of the season late to make it 6-1 for the Firebirds.

Coachella Valley outshot Calgary 30-20 on the night.
The Firebirds moved into first place with 68 points, one ahead of Colorado and two ahead of the Wranglers. Only nine points separate the top six teams in the league.
The two teams do it again Wednesday night at the Saddledome.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
